M6 - Aeroport Otopeni Station

This station will be located beneath the roadway in front of the Henri Coandă International Airport, facing the parking area adjacent to the Departures Terminal and the access roads exiting the Arrivals Terminal. It will feature four main access points: two located in the middle of the station and two positioned at the level of the two airport terminals. In addition, there will be one technical access located in the gallery area. This is the final station of the project and also serves as the reception shaft for the TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines). The Aeroport Otopeni Station has a total length of 332.47 meters, including 179.3 meters allocated to the maneuvering area at the southern end, and a maximum width of 37.14 meters.

Progress of Works

  • November 2025: Excavation works continued at the raft foundation level of PLOT 9, reaching a total of 4,800 m³, as well as the excavation required to lower the working platform to the level of the guide beams in PLOT 7, amounting to approximately 1,700 m³, with the commencement of guide-beam concrete pours. 📈 Structural works progress: 58%.
  • October 2025: Completed works include: reinforcement and concreting of the sub-slab and concourse slab between axes 35–41 (Plot 9 – 100%), and the general execution progress of the concourse slab (excluding the gallery) has reached 30%. Structural works progress: 54%.
  • September 2025: The excavation at the concourse level – PLOT 9 was completed, with a total volume of 13,091 cubic metres, representing 42% of the total excavation works for the station. The reinforcement, formwork, and concreting of the intermediate slab – PLOT 8 were executed, reaching a progress rate of 25%.
  • August 2025: The waterproofing of the roof slab – PLOT 8 was completed over an area of 1,350 square metres, representing 13% of the total area of the station and connecting gallery. The roof slab – PLOT 9 was concreted over an area of 1,089 square metres (corresponding to 937 cubic metres of concrete).To date, 63% of the total roof slab of the station has been completed. Excavation beneath the roof slab – PLOT 8 was carried out, with 5,291 cubic metres of soil removed, representing 13% of the total excavation volume for the station and gallery. The blinding layer of the concourse slab – PLOT 8 was concreted over 862 square metres, representing 10% of the total blinding layer surface for the concourse slab (station + gallery).
  • July 2025: All 47 diaphragm wall panels for Plots 8 and 9 have been completed. 20 out of 43 barrettes for Plots 8 and 9 were finalized. The cover slab for Plot 8 was concreted over an area of 1,467 sqm, and the related waterproofing was fully completed. For Plot 9, excavation of the cover slab down to -2.4 meters (1,277 sqm) was performed, and 115 cubic meters of slope concrete were poured. Excavation under the cover slab of Plot 8 has begun. Additionally, 4 out of 15 dewatering wells were executed, and 30 linear meters of base slab for the thermal duct trench were completed.

  • June 2025: A total of 7,500 cubic meters were excavated for the upper slab. A 250-meter-long guide beam and additional beams for barrettes were completed. 37 diaphragm wall panels and 19 barrettes with metal columns were executed. 1,400 sqm of leveling concrete was poured for Plot 8. 126 tons of reinforcement were installed for the upper slab of Plot 8.
The future M6 metro line will transform the daily commute into a pleasant and fast journey to important destinations within the capital and Ilfov. Stations under construction:
