The future Tokyo metro station, part of the SOUTH section of the future M6 Metro Line, has been visited again by another group of students from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, accompanied by their professors.

The visit has had an academic purpose, as part of the practical activities included in the universitary curriculum.

The specialists at the construction site presented the ongoing works to the students and provided on-site explanations about the technologies used.

The technical visit has also included access to the two tunnels where the two TBMs, “Sfânta Maria” and “Sfânta Ana,” are operating.

The students’ questions have been answered directly by the technical staff at the construction site, and the meeting has given the specialists building the metro the opportunity to supplement the information that the professors have conveyed to the students during this technical visit.

We are excited about the genuine and constant interest shown by technical university students in the construction site of M6 Metro Line, and we find that these visits always demonstrate a keen interest on the part of the students, who are the future specialists in the domain.

As of Tuesday, 08.10.2024, traffic will resume on lane 1 of the roadway ramp between General Ștefan Holban Street and Selgros Cash & Carry.

Also on this date, lane 2 will be closed to vehicle traffic, for phase 2 of the site activities under the execution contract “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.1: 1Mai-Tokyo” at the future metro station Aeroport Băneasa, on the alignment of the future M6 Metro Line, South Section.

The restriction and reconfiguration of public traffic on the Bucharest – Ploiești Road for phase 1 and phase 2 of the works for the future M6 Metro Line are in accordance with the Traffic Plan approved by the Joint Approval of C.N.A.I.R. and I.G.P.R.

Road signage is carried out according to legal requirements.

The implementation of the diversion from lane 1 to lane 2 will be carried out between 07.10.2024, 23:00 – 08.10.2024, 06:00, by temporarily diverting traffic on the IKEA Bridge, under the supervision of the Traffic Brigade.

“M6 Metro Line. 1 Mai – Otopeni, Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)” is a project of significant local relevance with a considerable regional and international impact.

One of the strategic financiers of the M6 Project is the Japan International Cooperation Agency – JICA, whose delegation made several official visits to Bucharest on Friday, 20th September 2024.

JICA investors met with representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, including Mr. Ionuț Săvoiu, State Secretary, and Ms. Mariana Ioniță, Secretary General, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Metrorex, under the coordination of Ms. Mariana Miclăuș, General Director, and from the Project Supervisor, International joint venture consisting of PADECO Co., Ltd.  – ORIENTAL CONSULTANTS GLOBAL Co., Ltd. – METROUL S.A.

The meeting discussed the project’s progress and reviewed the current state of its implementation.

The JICA delegation, led by Mr. Kei Toyama, General Director of the Europe Division, Department for the Middle East and Europe, accompanied by representatives from Metrorex, the Supervisor, and the Constructors, visited the sites of future stations on M6 Metro Line, Gara Băneasa and Tokyo.

The constructor of the South Section, designated for the works on the 1 Mai – Tokyo section, presented the progress made on the two future stations visited.

The progress of the works, recorded in the first half of September 2024 in the M6 Metro Line South Section Site Log, is outlined below:

• For the future Tokyo metro station, 270 metres of guide beam have been installed, along with 47 diaphragm wall panels and 358 plastic piles for soil improvement.
• Works have commenced on the bored piles for the future interstation Aeroport Băneasa – Tokyo; out of a total of 180, 23 piles have been completed.
• At the future Aeroport Băneasa station, 263 metres of guide beam have been installed, along with 24 diaphragm wall panels and 160 plastic piles.
• For the future Gara Băneasa station, 35 diaphragm wall panels and 6 plastic Dwall panels for the TBM (tunnel boring machine) exit have been completed.
• For the future interstation Piața Montreal – Gara Băneasa, 181 bored piles have been completed.
• At the future Piața Montreal station, 191 metres of guide beam and 23 diaphragm wall panels have been installed.
• At the future Expoziției station, 544 metres of guide beam and 45 diaphragm wall panels have been installed, and for the electrical station, 121 metres of guide beam and 17 diaphragm wall panels.
• For the future interstation Pajura – Expoziției, more than 190 piles have been installed.
• At the future Pajura station, 459 metres of guide beam and 10 diaphragm wall panels have been completed. At Access A, 42 bored piles have been installed.
• At the future interstation 1 Mai – Pajura, 32 bored piles have been completed.
• At the future 1 Mai metro station, site organisation works and utility relocation are being carried out.

“Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni, Connection of the metro network to Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni” is a project of considerable local relevance, with a significant regional and international impact.

• Work has begun on the bored piles at the future Aeroport Băneasa – Tokyo interstation; out of a total of 180, 23 have been executed;
• At the future Aeroport Băneasa station, 263 m of guide beam, 24 diaphragm walls and 160 plastic piles were executed;
• 35 diaphragm wall panels and 6 plastic wall panels for the exit of the TBM from the tunnel were executed for the future Gara Băneasa station;
• 181 bored piles were executed for the future Piața Montreal – Gara Băneasa interstation;
• 191 m of guide beam and 23 diaphragm wall panels were executed at the future Piața Montreal station;
• At the future Expoziției station, 544 m of guide beam and 45 diaphragm wall panels were executed, and for the electrical substation 121 m of guide beam and 17 diaphragm wall panels;
• At the future Pajura – Expoziției interstation, more than 190 piles were executed;
• 459 m of guide beam and 10 diaphragm wall panels were executed at the future Pajura station. At Access A, 42 bored piles were executed;
• At the future 1 Mai – Pajura interstation, 32 bored piles were executed;
• At the future 1 Mai metro station, site set-up works and utility relocation works are under way.

The traffic restriction on Mărăști Blvd., in the area of Piața Montreal – Piața Presei Libere, is extended until November 15, 2024, according to the renewed Traffic Approval.

Execution activities at the future metro station Piața Montreal on the alignment of the future M6 Metro Line, South Section, within the framework of the execution contract “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.1: 1 Mai-Tokyo” necessitate the closure of the three existing traffic lanes on Mărăști Blvd., between Piața Montreal and Piața Presei Libere.

The traffic diversion plan is endorsed by the Technical Traffic Commission of the Bucharest City Hall, Transportation Department, by Opinion No. 4257/08.04.2024, by the Bucharest Streets Administration, and by the Bucharest Traffic Brigade, by Opinion No. 2791116 SSR/BS/10.05.2024.

Traffic diversion and road signage in the works area are carried out in accordance with the legislation in force.

The detour is signposted by information panels about the restriction at the intersections: Ion Mihalache Blvd. -Aviator Popișteanu Street, Aviator Popișteanu Street – Expoziției Blvd., Parcului Street – Expoziției Blvd. – Aviator Traian Vasile Street, Mărăști Blvd. – Alexandru Constantinescu Street, and Mărăști Blvd. – Mareșal Alexandru Averescu Blvd.

For pedestrians, crossing is ensured at the existing crossings at the ends of the restricted road section.

For construction activities under the contract “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and construction of station structures, galleries, and tunnels. Lot 1. – 1 Mai-Tokyo”, METROREX announces the diversion of road traffic on a section of Expoziției Boulevard. This traffic diversion is scheduled to take effect on 19.09.2024, as part of the construction plan for the future “Expoziției – Piața Montreal” metro interstation, part of the future M6 Metro Line, South Section.

The traffic will be diverted in accordance with the plan approved by I.G.P.R. – Traffic Department. Any further changes will be communicated through an updated announcement.

The traffic diversion and road signage in the work area will be implemented in line with current regulations, with traffic management overseen by representatives from the Traffic Brigade, at times agreed with the appointed contractor and with at least 72 hours’ notice.

The construction will take place in two phases, during which traffic on Expoziției Boulevard will alternate, ensuring that at least one lane is maintained for each direction, in compliance with legal width requirements. Pedestrian crossings will be provided at the existing crossings located at each end of the restricted road section.

M6 Metro Line will provide a direct link from Gara de Nord to Otopeni International Airport. The 14.2 km route will include 12 metro stations: Pajura, Expoziției, Piața Montreal, Gara Băneasa, Băneasa Airport, Tokyo, Washington, Paris, Brussels, Otopeni, Ion I. C. Brătianu, and Henri Coandă International Airport.

The traffic restriction on București – Ploiești Road, in the area of Băneasa Train Station – Miorița Fountain, is extended until 08.10.2024, according to the renewed Traffic Permit.

The preparatory activities at the future Gara Băneasa metro station, part of the future M6 Metro Line, South Section, under the execution contract “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.2: Tokyo – Aeroport Otopeni)”, necessitate the occupation of two traffic lanes on the inbound direction towards Bucharest (lanes I and II).

IMPORTANT: Road traffic will continue to flow on two lanes in each direction on București – Ploiești Road in the aforementioned area.

The traffic diversion plan has been approved by the Technical Traffic Commission within Bucharest City Hall, the Directorate of Transport, the Bucharest Roads Administration, and the Bucharest Traffic Brigade. The traffic diversion and road signage in the construction area are carried out in accordance with the legislation in force.

Yesterday afternoon, at the coordination center of M6 Metro Line, in the main construction site organization near the future “Tokyo” metro station, an important operational meeting was held regarding traffic changes caused by the current and future construction sites of the M6 Metro Line, both in Bucharest and along DN1.

The meeting was organized by Metrorex S.A., together with the Project Supervisor – PADECO Co., Ltd., ORIENTAL CONSULTANTS GLOBAL Co., Ltd., and METROUL S.A. – and representatives from the Lot 1.1 Contractor, ALSIM ALARKO – MAKYOL (South Section, 1 Mai-Tokyo), and Lot 1.2 Contractor, GÜLERMAK – SOMET (North Section, Tokyo-Otopeni Airport). Also attending were the Prefect of Bucharest, Mugur Mihai Toader, and his team, along with representatives from Bucharest City Hall (PMB), the General Directorate of Police of Bucharest (DGPMB), the Traffic Police Department (DGPMB-BR), the Bucharest Transport Company (STB), and the Bucharest-Ilfov Public Transport Association (TPBI).

The parties discussed in detail the main issues related to traffic restrictions and deviations caused by construction works on the South (Lot 1.1) and North (Lot 1.2) Sections and analyzed efficient solutions to mitigate the impact of these changes on traffic in Bucharest and on DN1.

Another important topic on the meeting’s agenda, raised by the Contractors, Beneficiary, and Supervisor, was the need for swift approval from the authorities, primarily for traffic deviations, but also for other necessary approvals to minimize delays and additional costs, and to limit the construction time.

All parties agreed to join forces to support the implementation of the M6 project as planned, with minimal impact on traffic participants and residents. They also agreed to schedule regular future meetings to stay informed and to address any issues that may arise during the construction process.
