Metrorex announces that, starting 8 December 2025, access for buses to the Departures Terminal of Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni will be temporarily restricted. This measure is required to facilitate construction works for the future Aeroport Otopeni metro station, part of the project “Connection of the metro network with Henri Coandă International Airport (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)”.

To ensure a safe working perimeter, the following measures will apply:

• The parking area designated for coaches and minibuses, located at the base of the control tower (in front of the Departures Terminal), will be closed.

• Stopping and parking of buses near the Departures Terminal will no longer be permitted.

• To maintain transport continuity and ensure passenger safety, coaches and minibuses will exclusively use the “Arrivals” Terminal viaduct, in line with the traffic scheme agreed with the National Company of Bucharest Airports.

Access will be properly signposted, and authorised personnel will support vehicle guidance throughout the implementation period.

The diversion is carried out based on CNAB Agreement no. AB-DIPS 1458/18.09.2025, concerning the reorganisation of airport traffic flows during construction works.

For the safety of all road users, Metrorex recommends that travellers allow additional travel time, considering the temporary changes to circulation routes.

Second tunnel segment completed on Metro Line 6

Today, the “Sfânta Ana” boring shield has broke through the wall of the future Aeroport Băneasa metro station on M6 Metro Line.

The giant machine began excavating the tunnel on Line 1 on May 28, 2025, from the future Tokyo metro station.

This event marks the completion of the first double-sided tunnel segment on the SOUTH Section of the future M6 Metro Line, with Line 2 having been finished over the same distance by the “Sfânta Maria” TBM in the middle of the previous month.

The segment completed by the “Sfânta Ana” boring machine amounts 900 m excavated and 600 tunnel rings assembled!

We are glad that the two boring machines are keeping pace with the schedule for completing the structural civil works for the SOUTH Section of the future M6 Metro Line!

The TBMs “Sfânta Maria” and “Sfânta Ana” will excavate the 6.6 km long underground tunnels, on which the six stations and six interstations of the alignment of M6 Metro Line, SOUTH Section, 1 Mai – Tokyo, will be built.

Important announcement regarding metro train traffic on Magistrala 4

Metrorex informs that, starting with September 1, 2025, there will be temporary changes in train traffic on Magistrala 4 (Gara de Nord 2 – Străulești), as a result of the works for connecting the new Metro Line 6 to the existing network.

Thus, trains will run with a transfer at Jiului station. Passengers will have to get off and change trains at the neighboring line, in the desired direction, to continue their journey.

The changes are necessary due to the temporary closure of line 2 between 1 Mai and Jiului stations, with trains running in both directions on a single track in this area.

These works are part of the Metro Line 6: 1 Mai – Otopeni project, which will directly connect Gara de Nord with Henri Coandă – Otopeni Airport, a project of national interest, declared of public utility by Government Decision no. 496/2017.

At the same time, Metrorex announces improvements in train frequency on other lines:

On Lines 1 and 3, between September 8 and December 31, 2025, the intervals between trains will be reduced:

• from 7 to 6 minutes on weekdays (Monday–Friday)

• from 10 to 9 minutes on weekends and public holidays

We thank our passengers for their understanding and patience! We assure the public that the work is being carried out safely and with maximum efficiency.

Today’s specialists meet tomorrow’s ones

The future Tokyo metro station, part of the SOUTH section of the future M6 Metro Line, has been visited again by another group of students from the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, accompanied by their professors.

The visit has had an academic purpose, as part of the practical activities included in the universitary curriculum.

The specialists at the construction site presented the ongoing works to the students and provided on-site explanations about the technologies used.

The technical visit has also included access to the two tunnels where the two TBMs, “Sfânta Maria” and “Sfânta Ana,” are operating.

The students’ questions have been answered directly by the technical staff at the construction site, and the meeting has given the specialists building the metro the opportunity to supplement the information that the professors have conveyed to the students during this technical visit.

We are pleased with the genuine and constant interest shown by technical university students in the construction site of M6 Metro Line, and we find that these visits always demonstrate the utmost interest on the part of the students, who are the future specialists in construction.
