Temporary traffic restrictions on the DN1, at the future PARIS metro station, Metro Line 6

Metrorex announces the introduction of temporary traffic restrictions on National Road 1 (DN1), in the area of the junction with Strada Padina, for the execution of the works at the future PARIS metro station, part of the project “Connection of the metro network to Henri Coandă International Airport (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)”.

From 24 November 2025:

  • In the Ploiești – Bucharest direction, traffic will be restricted to 2 lanes;
  • In the Bucharest – Ploiești direction, 3 traffic lanes will be maintained;
  • At weekends, additional temporary restrictions may apply in both directions.

Drivers are asked to proceed with care and to observe the temporary road signs.

The works are being carried out with the approval of CNAIR – SDN Bucharest, issued with the agreement of DRDP Bucharest, CTC PMB and the Bucharest Traffic Police Brigade. The approval is issued until 31 December 2025, and both the approval and the associated traffic restrictions will be extended in successive stages, depending on the progress of the works.

“Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni, Connection of the metro network to Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni” is a public utility project of national interest, in accordance with Government Decision no. 496/2017.

The new metro line will provide the direct link between Gara de Nord and Otopeni International Airport, contributing to the development of the trans-European transport network.

Notice on changes to the traffic restriction on the DN1, in the Băneasa Bridge area

On the night of Thursday to Friday, 20–21 November 2025, from 23:00, changes will be made in the area of the traffic restriction introduced at the junction of the DN1, Șoseaua București – Ploiești, with Strada Elena Văcărescu and with Strada Constantin Dobrogeanu Gherea, for a new stage of the works on Metro Line 6, SOUTH Section.

Traffic measures:

  • Lane 3 will be closed in each direction of travel.
  • The New Jersey concrete barriers on the central axis of the DN1 will be removed and replaced with white and red plastic bollards. The road signs will be set out in accordance with the approved traffic plan.

The measures are being implemented on the basis of the approval issued by CNAIR and IGPR.

46 years of the Bucharest metro

19 November is an anniversary for Metrorex S.A., the company that operates the Bucharest metro, the efficient public transport system serving the capital of Romania.

This year marks 46 years since the Bucharest metro opened its doors to journeys through the underground fabric of public transport, to which new extensions and improvements are constantly being added.

How else could a transport company that has served people for almost half a century celebrate this anniversary, if not together with its passengers?

Mariana Miclăuș, Director General of Metrorex, sends a message to everyone who brings the Bucharest metro to life:

“The metro is more than a means of transport — it is a living organism, built by people for people.

Every train that leaves a station, every passenger who reaches their destination and every day on which the network runs safely are the result of responsible and dedicated work.

I thank all my colleagues for their professionalism. Each of them has an essential role, and every contribution counts.

I thank our loyal passengers, who give us their trust day after day, and our partners, who support us in developing and maintaining a fast, safe and efficient transport service.

I thank the enthusiasts, the curious, the children and the families who visited our Central Control Room. Your presence showed us that the metro remains an important part of the life of the city.

For me, the metro is home. I have spent my entire career here and I have grown, professionally and as a person, alongside extraordinary people.

We will continue to modernise, to develop and to offer our passengers safety, comfort and confidence.

On 16 November, Metrorex held an Open Day at the Metrorex Central Control Room — the place where train movements and the entire flow of the metro network are coordinated in real time. To the delight of Metrorex representatives, hundreds of loyal passengers, enthusiasts and curious visitors came through the door of this special space and showed their enthusiasm. Metrorex staff were pleasantly surprised by the enormous public interest in discovering what goes on behind the scenes of the metro and in better understanding the everyday work behind every safe journey.

The company’s Director General, Mariana Miclăuș, welcomed those who were seeing for the first time the place from which the capital’s entire metro network is coordinated. The emotion, the smiles and the surprise shown by the guests filled Metrorex staff with positive energy, confirming once again that every effort is justified when you work and build for people.

Metro Line 6 is one of the recent achievements currently under construction, and will provide, along a route of 14.2 km of double track, the direct link from Gara de Nord to Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni. At this anniversary moment, the future line has reached over 52% completion of the structural works on the SOUTH Section, the 1 Mai – Tokyo stretch, and over 34% on the NORTH Section, the Tokyo – Aeroport Otopeni stretch.

Metro Line 6 will be connected to the existing metro network operated by Metrorex S.A., to the metropolitan surface transport network and to the national rail and air transport networks. The 12 stations of the new line are being built in key areas of interest between the current 1 Mai station and Otopeni Airport. The main areas the new line will serve are: 1 Mai, Romexpo, Gara de Nord and Băneasa Airport, the residential, retail and business areas along the DN1 between Bucharest and Otopeni, the town of Otopeni and the arrivals and departures terminals of Otopeni International Airport.

At the station on the ring road (Bruxelles), the project provides for a “Park & Ride” car park with approximately 500 spaces, where drivers will be able to leave their cars and continue their journey by metro.

Metro Line 6, on which 12 new trains will run, contributes to the expansion of the existing safe, environmentally friendly and modern transport network, which will improve mobility for the population of the Bucharest metropolitan area and of the town of Otopeni. It is the first fast, direct link between Gara de Nord and Otopeni Airport, integrating regional air, rail and road transport flows.

Beyond these benefits, Metro Line 6 contributes to the development of the suburban areas and supports the promotion of the residential, retail, business and leisure areas between Băneasa and Otopeni. A fast, convenient and safe transport solution for locals and tourists alike, the future metro line will provide a mobility corridor between the two airports and the city centre, will reduce road traffic and will bring improved environmental conditions, along with lower noise, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

The future Metro Line 6 is further proof of how Metrorex takes on its mission towards people and towards Bucharest, a European capital. And that is what makes 46 years of the metro in Bucharest an anniversary to be celebrated together with the travelling public.

Update on traffic restrictions on Bulevardul Expoziției for the Metro Line 6 works

For construction activities under the contract “Connection of the metro network to Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni). Design and execution of the structure of stations, galleries and tunnels. Lot 1 – 1 Mai – Tokyo”, METROREX announces the diversion of road traffic on a section of Bulevardul Expoziției.

The traffic diversion is scheduled to come into force on 14.11.2025 and is required by the works programme for the future “Expoziției – Piața Montreal” interstation on the alignment of the future M6 metro line, South Section.

Traffic will be diverted in accordance with the plan approved by the I.G.P.R. – Road Directorate Approval. Any subsequent change will be announced through an updated notice.

The traffic diversion and the road signs in the area of the works will be carried out in accordance with the legislation in force.

The works are being carried out in accordance with the Traffic Plan approved by the Technical Traffic Commission of Bucharest City Hall and by the Traffic Police Brigade, stage III.

Traffic measures:

On Bd. Expoziției, alongside the Metro Line 6 site, road traffic will be carried on a single lane, in the direction of Strada Aviator Popișteanu.

In the direction of the tram 41 terminus, alongside the Metro Line 6 site, road traffic will be reduced from two lanes to a single lane.

Access to and from Romexpo remains open to road traffic.

Metrorex thanks all road users on the above route, as well as the residents and businesses operating near the work areas, for their understanding.

1–8 MARCH 2023 “M6 – A project as green as spring”

Between 1 and 8 March 2023, the Contractor ran the PR campaign “M6 – A project as green as spring”, dedicated to this period, in accordance with the Beneficiary’s requirements, split into two components: Corporate direct mailing, to partners, and the “Travelling Mărțișor” sampling campaign, for the general public.

1.1 CORPORATE PR component – direct mailing

The Contractor distributed to the Beneficiary, the Supervisor and the contacts in its own database kits bearing the M6 logo and containing a chocolate clover, a daffodil bulb in a pot wrapped in a jute pouch tied with a cotton mărțișor thread, a flower-shaped card suspended on a wooden stick, personalised with the headline “M6 – A project as green as spring”, and an M6 mărțișor with lichen and a craft card personalised with the wish “A beautiful spring”.

The Contractor delivered the M6 mărțișoare for the Beneficiary’s list on 1 March, and the rest of the kit on 6 March.

1.2 SAMPLING component

The Contractor prepared 550 mărțișoare, entitled “Travelling Mărțișor”, personalised with the logo, the M6 map and the headline “Metro Line 6, a project as green as spring”, and made them available to the Beneficiary on the morning of 1 March. The Contractor, together with PR representatives of the Supervisor and of the Beneficiary, ran the sampling campaign for the travelling public.

The campaign took place on the metro route between Dristor 2 station and Gara de Nord 2 station.

The mărțișoare were distributed partly in the carriages of a metro train that set off from Dristor 2 station. The campaign was photographed and filmed by the Contractor. The remaining mărțișoare were handed out by the Beneficiary’s representatives on the platform of Gara de Nord 2 station.

During the campaign from 1 to 8 March, the Beneficiary ran on its own network of advertising screens a video prepared by the Contractor to promote the M6 project as a major and highly topical part of the Beneficiary’s activity.

The photographs from the event were made available to the Beneficiary and the Supervisor on the same day. Some of them were placed by the Contractor and the Beneficiary into templates produced by the Contractor for the Beneficiary’s Facebook page. The Beneficiary posted them the same day. The footage from the event was edited into a video based on a model sent by the Beneficiary to the Contractor and was sent to the Beneficiary and the Supervisor on the day of the event, to be used in a post on the Beneficiary’s Facebook page.

2022 – ECO Christmas

Between 10 and 28 December 2022, the Contractor ran the “ECO Christmas” campaign.

The creative concept of the campaign: “Every day we build a sustainable future. Now we are building the future.”

Approach: the importance of the M6 project, a major urban infrastructure project, was underlined through suggestive, symbolic means, drawing on a strategy based on the power of example. Rather than emphasising the glitter of the holidays, the campaign set out to highlight the benefits that well-made things bring to people’s lives. We chose a simple and memorable gift, one that can be brought to life. In the form of a direct mailing campaign, the project was communicated to stakeholders, partners and the press, conveying a long-term message and also an invitation to get directly involved. In this way, we set out to emphasise nature, continuity and perspective, the lasting value of professional and human relationships, and the importance of things achieved through working together.

Campaign elements: a fir planting kit and a holiday message.

Kit contents: a bio box, a biodegradable pot, a small bottle of Abies Alba fir seeds, fertile sowing soil, planting instructions, a craft bag, a label tied with string, a fir sprig, a card and an envelope.

The mailing was segmented bilingually (Romanian and English), according to the recipients in the database built by the Contractor, the Supervisor and the Beneficiary.

Notice regarding temporary traffic restrictions at Henri Coandă International Airport Otopeni

Between November 6 and 15, 2025, infrastructure works will be carried out, with temporary road signage approved by IPJ Ilfov – Serviciul Rutier..

Starting Friday, November 7, 2025, at 07:30 AM, road traffic, including bus routes, in the Departures area will be diverted to the newly constructed lanes, in accordance with the approved traffic management plan for the works related to the “Aeroport Otopeni” metro station under Metro Line 6.

Information Notice regarding Temporary Traffic Restrictions in the Băneasa North Area

Between 3 and 23 November 2025, road traffic between Strada Jandarmeriei and Bulevardul Dr. Liviu Librescu is temporarily closed to allow construction works at the future “Washington” Metro Station, part of the BUCHAREST INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RAIL ACCESS LINK PROJECT (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.2: Tokyo – Aeroport Otopeni.

During this period, traffic will be diverted along the following route:
-> Aleea Privighetorilor –> Bulevardul Alexandru Nasta –> Bulevardul Dr. Liviu Librescu.

These measures are implemented based on the approval issued by CNAIR and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police – Traffic Directorate. Road signage will be provided according to the approved traffic management plan. Upon completion of the works, traffic will return to its normal configuration.
