Visit of the Ambassador of Japan to the construction site of the new M6 metro line

On 22 August, His Excellency Takashi Katae, Ambassador of Japan to Romania, paid a working visit to the main construction site of the new M6 metro line and to the building site of the upcoming “Tokyo” subway station. This visit reflects the commitment of both parties to the success of the “Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni” project.

During his visit, the Ambassador met with the Metrorex General Director Mariana Miclăuș and with representatives of the Metrorex Technical and Investment Department, as well as with the Project Supervisor, PADECO CO. LTD – ORIENTAL CONSULTANTS GLOBAL.LTD – METROUL S.A. Representatives of the Constructors involved in the two lots of the project were also present: Lot 1.1, ALSIM ALARKO – MAKYOL (South Section, 1 Mai-Tokyo), and Lot 1.2, GULERMAK – SOMET (North Section, Tokyo-Otopeni Airport).

Throughout the talks, the officials discussed the current status of the “Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni” project and the prospects for future development. The project is being carried out in strategic partnership with Japan and is financed from the state budget and from repayable external funds, including an external credit granted by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

The visit to the building site of the upcoming “Tokyo” station gave the Metrorex’s General Director the opportunity to present the state of works on the station that will become a central point of connection between the Southern and Northern Sections of the metro line. The station bears the name of the Japanese capital, Tokyo, as a token of appreciation for Japan’s support for this project.

The new M6 metro line will consist of 14.2 km of double track, running 12 modern trains. The line will include 12 stations, providing a fast and efficient link between Bucharest’s 1 Mai district and the Henri Coandă – Otopeni International Airport. This flagship project is of public utility and national importance, according to Government Decision No. 496/2017, and will contribute to improving citizens’ mobility through integration with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

M6 metro line is an important step in the modernization of Romania’s transport infrastructure, providing sustainable and comfortable mobility solutions for the capital’s inhabitants and tourists transiting the Henri Coandă Airport.
