Bucharest, June 4, 2024 – Metrorex and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure signed today the financing contract for the project “M6 Bucharest: 1 Mai -Tokyo section (6 stations) with a total length of 6.6 km” financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNNR).
The investment objective “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.1: 1Mai-Tokyo” is a public utility of national importance, which ensures the mobility needs of people through the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and has a value of 9,337,084,108 lei.

“Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)” will have 12 trains, a route of 14.2 km and will include 12 metro stations: Pajura, ExpoziÈ›iei – Pajura, PiaÈ›a Montreal, Gara Băneasa, Aeroport Băneasa, Tokyo, Washington, Paris, Bruxelles, Otopeni, Ion I. C. Brătianu, Aeroportul InternaÈ›ional Henri Coandă. The project is divided into two lots: Lot 1.1 South Section (1 Mai – Tokyo), (6.6 km long and comprising 6 stations) and Lot 1.2 North Section (Tokyo – Otopeni Airport), (7.6 km long and comprising 6 stations).
This new and fast connection is designed for all the capital’s residents, business people, commuters, tourists and will ensure better business and travel opportunities, environment and quality of life. The new metro line will serve an area with high potential demand for fast, safe and efficient transportation. Traffic safety will also be significantly improved.
The M6 Metro Line, entirely underground, will provide a high-capacity rapid transport system between the Henri Coandă Otopeni International Airport – BucureÈ™ti and the central area of the city, thus contributing to the development of the regional economy and improving the urban environment by reducing road congestion, traffic accidents and air pollution.
