Road traffic restrictions on the București – Ploiești Road

Bucharest, June 20, 2024 – For preparatory activities in the framework of the implementation contract “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.1: 1Mai-Tokyo” at the future Gara Băneasa metro station on the alignment of the future M6 Metro Line, South Section, METROREX announces road traffic restrictions, scheduled to come into force on June 29, 2024.


The traffic diversion plan has been approved by the Technical Traffic Commission of the Bucharest City Hall, the Transport Department, through Approval no. 212464/17.01.2024, and by the Bucharest Streets Administration and the Bucharest Traffic Police, through Approval no. 2791087 SSR/BS/10.05.2024.
The traffic restriction will be established on the București-Ploiești Road, in the area of Băneasa Railway Station – Fântâna Miorița and consists in the occupation of two traffic lanes on the direction entering Bucharest (lane I and lane II). Road traffic will operate on two lanes in each direction of the București-Ploiești Road, in the above mentioned area.


The preparatory traffic deviation operations will be carried out with the support and under the supervision of the Road Traffic Police. Traffic diversions in the construction area will be carried out in accordance with the legislation in force.

M6 Metro Line will provide a direct link from the North Railway Station (Gara de Nord) to the Otopeni International Airport. It will cover 14.2 km and will include 12 metro stations: Pajura, Expoziției – Pajura, Piața Montreal, Gara Băneasa, Aeroport Băneasa, Tokyo, Washington, Paris, Bruxelles, Otopeni, Ion I. C. Brătianu, Aeroportul Internațional Henri Coandă. This new and fast connection is addressed to all residents of the capital, business people, commuters, tourists and will ensure improved business and travel opportunities, environment and quality of life. The new metro line will serve an area with high potential demand for fast, safe and efficient transportation. Traffic safety will also be significantly improved.

“Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)” is a public utility project of national importance, according to Government Decision no. 496/2017, as amended, which provides for the mobility needs of people through the development of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
