Visit to the M6 construction site: Otopeni students discover how the metro is built

On May 29, on the occasion of the near coming Children’s Day, the students of the “Ioan Petruș” Theoretical High School from Otopeni were invited by the contractors appointed for the design and build of the resistance structure, galleries and tunnels, to visit the construction site of the future Ion I.C. Brătianu metro station, part of the M6 Metro Line.

If for Bucharest’s citizens the metro is a regular presence, for Otopeni it is a premiere: a modern mobility project that will link Gara de Nord Station to Henri Coandă International Airport.

The students and teachers chose to turn the visit into an English course in a real-life context – right next to one of the Capital’s most important international transportation hubs. The choice was not by chance: the world’s first metro was inaugurated in London in 1863, and the M6 project today is being carried out by a mixed national and international team, with English as a key working tool.

The children could see a construction stage of the Ion I. C. Brătianu metro station in Otopeni and were engaged in an imaginative exercise which they expressed through ideas and messages written on a board installed on the construction site and through drawings on the theme: “How do I see a metro station?”.

The Metrorex branded event was organized with the participation of the contractors working on the North section (Gulermak – Somet) and on the South section (Alsim Alarko-Makyol Joint Venture) of the future M6 Metro Line and the Project Supervisor, PADECO Co., Ltd. – ORIENTAL CONSULTANTS GLOBAL Co., Ltd. – METROUL S.A.

Happy anniversary to all the children! We are glad that we could honor this day by meeting the future of urban transportation – a future that we are building, day by day, for them.

We invite you to explore the artistic creations of students from “Ioan Petruș” Theoretical High School in Otopeni, inspired by the recent visit to the construction site of the future Ion I.C. Brătianu metro station, part of the M6 Metro Line project!
