The most important legal acts regulating the realization of “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)” are:
– Government Decision no. 930/2016, approving the technical and economic indicators of the project according to the revised Feasibility Study, with the project being configured on a 14 km route with 12 stations and 12 trains.
– Environmental Agreement issued on 30.10.2017 by the Ministry of Environment – National Environmental Protection Agency;
– Romanian Government Decision no. 496/2017 on the initiation of expropriation procedures for private properties that form the expropriation corridor for the public utility works of national importance “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)”;
-Order of the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications no. 995/19.05.2020, approving the updated economic indicators related to the investment objective;
-Romanian Government Decision no. 906/13 July 2022 on the supplementation for the year 2022 of the amount provided as fair compensation, approved by Government Decision no. 496/2017, regarding the initiation of expropriation procedures for private properties that form the expropriation corridor for the public utility works of national importance “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni”, as well as the amendment of Annex no. 2 to Government Decision no. 496/2017.;
-Government of Romania Decision No. 906/July 13, 2022 regarding the supplementation for the year 2022 of the amount allocated as fair compensation, as approved by Government Decision No. 496/2017, concerning the initiation of expropriation procedures for privately owned properties that constitute the expropriation corridor for the public utility works of national interest “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni”, and the amendment of Annex No. 2 of Government Decision No. 496/2017.
– Government of Romania Decision No. 823/September 8, 2023 regarding the supplementation for the year 2023 of the amount allocated as fair compensation, as approved by Government Decision No. 496/2017, concerning the initiation of expropriation procedures for privately owned properties that constitute the expropriation corridor for the public utility works of national interest “Linking the Metro Network with Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni (Main Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)”, and the amendment of Annex No. 2 of Government Decision No. 496/2017;
– Council of the European Union Implementing Decision No. 15883 of December 5, 2023, amending the Implementing Decision of October 29, 2021, which approved the assessment of Romania’s Recovery and Resilience Plan;
– Order of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure No. 1035/2024, approving the update of the technical-economic indicators for the investment project;
– Building Permit for the ” Connection of the subway network with Henri Coandă International Airport. Main Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni. Design and build works. Lot 1.1: 1 Mai – Tokyo”- instrument no. 80/ 13.12.2023;
– Building permit for the “Connection of the subway network with the Henri Coandă International Airport. Main Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni. Design and build of structural works. Lot 1.2: Tokyo – Otopeni Airport” – instrument no. 47/ 06.08.2024; “Bucharest International Airport Rail Access Link Project (Metro Line 6. 1 Mai-Otopeni). Design and Build – Civil Works for Lot 1.1: 1Mai-Tokyo”;
Since all acts issued by the authorities are public acts, all such approval documents can be consulted by the public online, on the websites of the issuing authorities as well as on specialized websites.
The feasibility and design studies were carried out with a view to implementing the project in a way that is safe for residents and buildings, so that TBM excavations can be carried out safely in the corridor established for the new subway Main Line 6. M6 metro line. Special, non-intrusive, non-pervasive monitoring equipment, which in no way affects the integrity and appearance of the building/premises, is installed onto the buildings in the area of influence of the site works. They constantly monitor, with technical accuracy and fidelity, any possible change that the block may experience due to said works. The monitoring equipment is a further guarantee that the work is being carried out responsibly for your home.
Great projects are built through hard work and with the participation of the whole community, which is in fact the main beneficiary of such a major investment. Main Line 6 M6 metro line will be the direct connection from North Railway Station (Gara de Nord) to Henri Coandă International Airport, without transfer at 1 Mai station. A subway station that will be in the immediate vicinity of your home, for a fast and efficient connection to the subway network and to points of maximum interest in Bucharest and Ilfov will increase the real estate value and economic level of the area where you live.
Due to the specific nature of the activities and site works, any changes to the normal course of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, everything is carried out with the consent of the authorities, in accordance with the legislation in force. In this regard, according to the approved Traffic Plan for M6 metro line, we have provided sidewalk/pedestrian access throughout the sector affected by the works, from the STB station, with its new location, to the commercial area at the intersection with General Ștefan Holban Street. Pedestrians can safely walk the distance to the shops on the specially designed sidewalk, which meets legal requirements.
The site works are being carried out in a planned manner, with a back-up plan to ensure the continuous provision of utilities: running water, electricity, telecom services. These works will not cause interruptions in the supply of the above-mentioned services. Should such situations arise, please contact the relevant service provider directly and also direct any enquiries relating to such an incident directly to the provider concerned.
Parking is a pressing problem in Bucharest. The authorities in a position to find solutions are the Public Domain Administrations of the sectors and Bucharest City Hall. METROREX’s mission is to create an efficient urban transportation solution within everyone’s reach, for faster and smoother traffic and a healthier environment. We assure you that our intervention in the public space is carried out with the utmost care for the residents. We cannot answer on behalf of the authorities, only in our own name, but as far as we are concerned, we would like to remind you that M6 metro line is an investment whose direct beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Capital.
As part of the project for the new M6 metro line, the replanting of trees is mandatory and will be carried out at the stage foreseen in the works plan, in accordance with the legal provisions in force.
– PAJURA – Located to the north of the Bucharest–Constanța railway line, near Baiculești Street, the station’s name was selected to reflect the name of the neighbourhood it will directly serve.
– EXPOZIŢIEI – Stația va fi poziționată la nord de intrarea estică a Complexului Expozițional Romexpo, punct central de interes pentru zona care, dincolo de comunitatea de afaceri, reunește frecvent numeroase evenimente și activități urbane: expoziții, târguri, concerte, conferințe.
– PIAŢA MONTREAL – Această stație de metrou, amplasată pe Bulevardul Mărăști, va deservi aria adiacentă zonei de capăt al tramvaielor și al autobuzelor din apropierea Pieţei Montreal, un perimetru citadin notoriu, larg și activ din punct de vedere al mediului de afaceri și al posibilităților de petrecere a timpului liber.
– GARA BĂNEASA – Amplasată adiacent Șoselei București – Ploiești, pe esplanada din faţa Gării Băneasa, la intersecţia dintre Strada Tipografilor cu Șoseaua București – Ploiești și calea ferată București – Constanţa, această stație de metrou preia numele reperului relevant pentru transportul public și pentru zona în care este construită.
– AEROPORT BĂNEASA – Această stație de metrou va asigura accesul ușor la Aeroportul Băneasa și, desigur, în zona aferentă acestuia. Va fi amplasată lângă șoseaua București – Ploiești, la nord de intersecţia Bulevardului Aerogării cu Șoseaua București – Ploiești.
– TOKYO – Poziționată adiacent șoselei București – Ploiești, în dreptul podului rutier din vecinătatea complexului comercial Băneasa Shopping City, această stație se află la jumătatea aliniamentului de 12 stații al Magistralei 6 de metrou. Numele stației își are originea în conceptul de a marca pe aliniamentul Magistralei 6 de metrou capitale ale țărilor cu relevanță majoră pentru Proiect, accentuând în acest fel importanța locală și internațională a noii linii de metrou. Japonia reprezintă unul dintre finanțatorii investiției, M6 fiind un proiect implementat cu fonduri de la bugetul de stat al României, fonduri europene și fonduri externe rambursabile JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
– WASHINGTON – Denumirea stației a fost aleasă datorită poziționării în apropierea Ambasadei SUA, viitoarea stație de metrou fiind amplasată lângă șoseaua București – Ploiești, în dreptul podului rutier de la strada Jandarmeriei.
– PARIS – Alegea numelui stației se explică prin apropierea de Liceul Francez “Anna de Noailles”. Viitoarea stație de metrou este amplasată la intersecţia dintre șoseaua București – Ploiești și strada Padina.
– BRUXELLES – Stația poartă această denumire datorită importanței majore pe care o are Uniunea Europeană în implementarea proiectului, și de asemenea, grație poziționării într-un nod intermodal de transport, fiind amplasată lângă podul rutier de la intersecţia dintre șoseaua București – Ploiești și centura Capitalei.
– OTOPENI – Prin poziționarea ei la intersecţia dintre Calea Bucureștilor și strada 23 August din centrul orașului Otopeni, această stație de metrou va fi reprezentativă pentru orașul al cărui nume îl va purta și pentru locuitorii acestuia care așteaptă cu mult interes să dispună de servicii de transport cu metroul.
– ION I.C. BRĂTIANU – Denumirea stației a fost aleasă în onoarea lui Ion I.C. Brătianu, inginer constructor și om de stat, persoană emblematică care și-a pus amprenta pe dezvoltarea infrastructurii feroviare din România. Stația este amplasată la intersecţia dintre Calea Bucureștilor și strada Zborului din Otopeni.
– AEROPORT OTOPENI – Această stație de metrou poartă în mod firesc numele scopului pe care îl va deservi în cadrul Magistralei 6, ca legătură directă între cel mai mare aeroport din România, cel mai semnificativ ca trafic de pasageri, dar și ca importanță națională și internațională și Gara de nord. Este amplasată sub carosabilul din faţa Aeroportului Otopeni, în dreptul parcării adiacente terminalului pentru plecări și în dreptul căilor de ieșire din terminalul de sosiri.

Line 6 „1 Mai – Otopeni” runs for 14 km and comprises 12 stations and 12 trains, in line with the technical and economic indicators approved by Government Decision no. 930/2016. The line starts at 1 Mai station, the interchange point with Line 4, and reaches Henri Coandă International Airport – Otopeni.
The works are divided into two lots. Lot 1.1 – South Section (1 Mai – Tokyo) includes the Pajura, Expoziției, Piața Montreal, Gara Băneasa, Aeroport Băneasa and Tokyo stations. Lot 1.2 – North Section (Tokyo – Aeroport Otopeni) includes the Washington, Paris, Bruxelles, Otopeni, Ion I.C. Brătianu and Aeroport Otopeni stations.
The project „Connection of the metro network to Henri Coandă International Airport (Line 6. 1 Mai – Otopeni)” is a public utility work of national interest, implemented by Metrorex S.A. with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
The financing comes from several sources: the state budget, non-reimbursable external funds and reimbursable external funds granted through JICA – the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The breakdown of the sources for each works lot is published in the Project financing section of this website.
A TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) is the equipment that excavates the metro tunnel and, at the same time, installs the concrete rings that form the final structure of the tunnel. It advances without open excavation at surface level, which reduces the impact on traffic and on residents.
On Line 6, the machines „Sfânta Maria” and „Sfânta Ana” are working on the South Section (1 Mai – Tokyo). On 22 June 2026, TBM „Sfânta Maria” passed the future Piața Montreal station, after excavating 2,848 linear meters and installing 1,895 rings. The progress of the machines can be followed in the TBM section of this website.
Every month we publish the Construction Site Journal – a summary of the status of the works for each station and for the tunnels, accompanied by a video journal.
The information can be found in three places: on the page of each station, in the „Current Work Status” section, where the months are listed in reverse chronological order; in the Video section of this website, which groups the construction site journals, the events and the materials about the construction of the network; and on the official Facebook page of the project.

In addition, each station page has its own „Traffic restrictions” section, containing the announcements that concern strictly the area of that station. Any change to vehicle or pedestrian traffic is made with the approval of the competent authorities and in accordance with the Traffic Plan approved for Line 6.
